Subject: Social Studies
Brief Description of Activity:
Students will go to the Starfall website and navigate their way to the “All About Me” activity. They will then be asked to complete the first module entitled “Who Am I?” This activity allows children to select from a set of words to complete a sentence that reflects who they are personally. The students can then choose to play back an auditory version of the sentence that they have created. They can then navigate to the next question and repeat this process. Throughout the module, children will identify their age and create an animated version of what they look like. Once this module is complete, students will have the opportunity to navigate other modules that encourage them to reflect on topics such as: naming parts of the body, and describing the role of household pets, where they sleep, and toys that interest them. At the end of these modules students will be able to print their personalized information and share it with their classmates.
General Learning Outcome:
Students will demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the multiple social, physical, cultural, and linguistic factors that contribute to making up an individual’s unique identity.
Specific Learner Outcomes:

Students will demonstrate an understanding of basic computer skills.

Rationale for Computer Integration:
Computers have been integrated into this assignment to allow students the opportunity to learn basic computer skills such as moving and clicking a mouse, typing, opening and navigating websites, and printing projects. The activity allows children to create written sentences and hear them played back through an auditory function. They can repeat this process and follow along visually as the words being played to them are lit up on the screen. In addition, it facilitates kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learners to connect with the content being presented to them. Finally, it encourages children to create their own outcomes as they can review the data and change the information to better reflect who they are as individuals.
